Homemade Nourishing Hair Mask – Recipe


Our favourite thing about DIY cosmetics is that it’s so accessible that most of the time you can make a potent cleanser or a nourishing mask from what’s already in your fridge, because ultimately, the produce you feed your stomach with should be just as beneficial for your skin and hair, shouldn’t it? For instance, take a banana: not only is it rich in vitamins and minerals, it also helps to soften your hair and add extra shine, which makes it a perfect component for a hair mask.

*** Before we jump right to the recipe for this easy to make remedy, we want to remind you that homemade hair masks work a different way to usual conditioners: they’re best applied before shampooing, left on the hair for a little while, and then washed out (just to make sure you don’t end up with fruit pieces stuck in your hair).


2tbsp honey
75ml natural yogurt
1 mashed banana

If you have long hair, you may need to double the amount of ingredients. You may want to do it anyway, because this mask is so delicious, last time we made it, we were caught snacking on it right in the shower.


How to:

Mix the honey into the natural yogurt, then using a hand mixer (or a spoon) combine with mashed banana to make a mask-like consistency.

Damp your hair very slightly (not a complete drenching) and coat with the mixture. Leave the mask on for up to an hour; then rinse, shampoo and condition as normal. Enjoy your naturally glossy and properly nourished hair. Repeat once a week.
