Is Sugar Really Bad For Your Body?

Cosmetics that are better than sugar

Quitting sugar is one of the trendiest dietary choices at the moment. We’ve tried it and can assure you it’s possible although quite hard. Your body will be craving its sweet treats, so your job is to supply it with healthier alternatives. While you scan the shelves of your local eco-grocer checking for dried fruits and raw chocolate, we’ve already scouted some delicious goodies among our favourite beauty brands. Maybe sugar ain’t that bad for you after all?

Actually, when we talk about topical application, sugar is in fact quite beneficial. For instance, brown sugar (that should always be your choice) is coated in molasses, which makes is naturally hygroscopic, meaning it retains water, and that is never a bad thing when it comes to skincare. Also sugar is a source of glycolic acid that helps fix your skin’s texture and attracts water, which adds even more moisture. Plus, it’s an exfoliant. So it really has pretty much everything needed for a perfect skin.

Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant from Éminence smells like your granny’s rhubarb pie and has a texture of a crumble. It contains rice powder that absorbs oil while lactic and salicylic acids remove dead skin cells and make your face glow. Delicious strawberries and rhubarb are great sources of antioxidants and vitamins which will help you fight the first signs of ageing.

There’s one thing that is even better than sugar. It’s honey! It’s rich in antioxidants and also features antimicrobial properties, making it a great anti-aging agent and moisturizer. We love an occasional all body honey massage, but if you don’t feel like getting all sticky, try the luxurious Laura Mercier Crème Brûlée Honey Bath. Inspired by the aroma of a French Patisserie, its rich bubbles smell of warm caramel, spun sugar, vanilla beans and white musk’s – to us it sounds like a recipe for a Sunday bath time with someone really special. It’ll put you in a very sensual mood and leave your skin velvety soft thanks to Shea Butter and Vanilla Extracts.

Licking on your lips can be sexy, it can also be very sweet, so sweet you won’t need a lollipop. fresh‘s Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy is made with reparative oils and real sugar, which is a natural humectant, so it keeps your lips supple for hours. We recommend you re-apply it throughout the day and before bedtime for a regular doze of sugar rush.

This February Vichy is launching its new body-care series named Ideal Body. It features four brand new products (two oils, a lotion and a balm) with seductive and delightful scents. Our favourite – Ideal Body Balm is a super rich body cream that will rescue even the driest of the skin types. Using it feels like smearing yourself in brioche batter, which in our world is as heavenly as it gets.

We’ll be first to admit it: we get easily obsessed with the things we like. Our latest craze is &Other Stories‘ new beauty range – Bellville Bakery. The scent is a perfect balance between creamy vanilla and fresh, tangy lemon that will instantly teleport you to an all-white sunlit bathroom in a bohemian Haussmann building in the heart of Paris. Under 10€ for a ticket to France? Gives us five! Starting with Belleville Bakery Hand Soap and Belleville Bakery Body Scrub.
