Pürminerals Liquid Veil 4-in-1 Spray Foundation – Review

Purminerals Liquid Veil 4-in-1 Spray Foundation

A product so genius I wonder why on Earth no one came up with something like this before.

You guys might already know that I have a thing for foundations. Ever since I gave up on Studio Sculpt by MAC (which I’d been using for what feels like forever), I’ve been exploring the world of tone products to its fullest. I thought I’ve tried it all: liquid, pressed, mineral, ecological, in a tube, in a stick, with a cushion, ridiculously expensive, unusually cheap, good, bad, astonishing… I was sure there was nothing that could surprise me anymore and then I got my hands on PürmineralsLiquid Veil 4-in-1.

This American mineral make-up brand (pronounced as “pure minerals”) ain’t exactly well-known in Europe and it might be a bit tricky to find a retail place near you, which, in my opinion, is a real shame, because I believe their products deserve much more exposure for their innovation and efficiency. I was first introduced to the range about a year ago with their 5-Piece Start Now Kit and I was instantly impressed by both 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation With SPF 15 (actually, I can’t think of any better pressed powder foundation that I’ve tried since) and Color Correcting Primer – Prep & Perfect – Neutral. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that the company I like and trust released something as brilliant as a foundation in a spray can.

It sounds a bit odd at first, but come to think of it: How many times were you promised an airbrushed effect from a liquid foundation? And how many times were you disappointed finding out that you’ve been once again tricked by a marketing gimmick, because no matter which tools you use or how hard you buff the fluids onto your face, most of the formulas will still be visible on the skin and the worst of them will still leave traces.

But not Liquid Veil 4-in-1:

It feels like every cosmetic company out there from major drug-store giants to high-end luxury brands has been working hard in R&D to give us some new ultra-light textures that fuses with the skin and stay undetectable. Luckily there’ve been some breakthrough, so we have now officially entered the era of “nude-fluids” foundations with some of the most notable ones being Dream Wonder from Maybelline and Diorskin Nude Air Serum. These new tone products often come in bottles with pipettes (because basically they are so runny, there’s no other way to dose them in a more convenient way), to the touch they feel more like primers rather than foundations, and they promise low to medium coverage with dewy finish (in case you’re looking for something with full coverage, this trend simply ain’t for you).

I’ve tried both above mentioned examples before and although I love the idea of a lightweight fluid melting onto my skin, my main concern with them is application (and in case with Dior that the shades are quite off). These foundations are so thin that using a sponge isn’t an option as it will absorb all the product before it reaches your face. Putting it first on a brush and then buffing it in on the skin is quite impossible too, as it will simply drip off the brush right away, so your only solution is to apply it directly on your face with your fingers and then blend it in with a duo-fiber brush. It’s pretty tricky, that’s why when Pürminerals put their fluid-serum in a spray it was a total game changer. At least for me.

Not only it looks cool spraying on your foundation like a pro-airbrush-artist, but also the technique is pretty easy to master. All you have to do is to shake your Liquid Veil 4-in-1 well and spray it directly onto the foundation brush (but do it over the sink or other surface that can easily be cleaned up, because this part of the process gets a bit messy), then buff onto the skin in circular motions. I really like to use duo-fiber brushes (for example, MAC 188) for liquid textures, because you can thoroughly work the product in and create invisible coverage. Just look at the finish, or rather try to see anything but my glowing skin, because the foundation itself is completely invisible:

To achieve this dewy soft finish and satiny, close-up worthy complexion Pürminerals added to Liquid Veil 4-in-1 two innovative ingredients: Liquid Crystals, which retain moisture and reflect light and Ceretin® Complex that smoothes out the skin. I simply adore the feel of it, if only there were more shades in the range, so I could find one that suits my skin tone slightly better. Unfortunately, there are just four of them at the moment (light, medium, tan and dark) and the light one is a bit too pinkish in the undertone for my taste, so I really hope the brand is going to add a couple of more swatches soon, because this product is so awesome, I would love to use it more often.
